In 1969 Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins took part in a mission that broke a barrier by putting the first man on the moon, fulfilling John F. Kennedy's promise to reach the moon by the end if the decade, and ending the space race in a U.S. victory over the Soviet Union in the cold war that had been going on for almost twenty years, the space race was one factors that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
